Statement by by Mr Mathew Fox, Alternate Resident Representative of Australia to the IAEA

Australia congratulates Timor Leste on its application for membership of the IAEA, and commends Timor Leste to this Board.
It is important to add another Southeast Asian voice to this international body. As the newest member of ASEAN, Timor Leste can bring the perspectives of a significant regional partner for the IAEA.
We commend Timor-Leste for the progress it has made in implementing its three safeguards agreements with the IAEA.
Timor Leste has demonstrated a consistent commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, as required by Article IV of the IAEA Statute.
Australia looks forward to welcoming Timor Leste to the IAEA.
