An Australian Evening at Augarten

On 8 October 2024, Ambassador Ian Biggs and Dr Christine Biggs OAM hosted an "Australian Evening at Augarten."

Guests were invited to wander the Augarten greenhouse, savouring a true taste of Australia. We were proud to share some Australian culinary classics with our friends in Vienna, such as #DemocracySausages , kangaroo meat, #Vegemite, lamingtons, caramel slice, and pavlovas, and to showcase native Australian ingredients traditionally used by First Nations peoples, including wattleseed, lemon myrtle, and pepperberry. Guests also enjoyed some top-notch craft beer, wines, and award-winning gins, vodka and whisky all the way from Wollongong. Read more.

 

𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶plomatic Winter Bazaar in Sarajevo

On 7 December 2024, the Australian Embassy Vienna and Australian Consulate Sarajevo proudly hosted the Australia stall at the largest charity event in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A big 𝙩𝙝𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 to everyone who stopped by to say G'day and to help us raise funds for local children's charities. With the help of our incredible group of young volunteers, our stall was a vibrant, cheerful, and highly successful celebration of Aussie culture. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Australian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina for their invaluable support. See you all in 2025!

 

Austria-Australia Industry Roundtable on Clean Energy

On 27 June 2024, Ambassador Ian Biggs hosted an industry roundtable "Australia and Austria: Strategic Partners in Clean Energy". 

The event was a significant step towards fostering collaboration and innovation in the clean energy sector between our two nations.

The roundtable provided a forum to discuss the clean energy opportunities driven by the Australian Government’s ‘Future Made in Australia’ package and to gain valuable insights on the green transition, particularly in the hydrogen sector, highlighting the potential for strategic partnerships and shared advancements. Together, Australia and Austria are committed to driving the transition to a sustainable and net-zero future. 

Appointment of Honorary Consul in Slovenia

22 January 2024

The Australian Government has appointed Ms Gabrijela Smuk as its new Honorary Consul for Australia, resident in Ljubljana with jurisdiction throughout Slovenia.

Ms Smuk is an Australian-Slovenian dual national and an active member of the Australian expatriate community in Slovenia. She is an accomplished businessperson in the fields of real estate and property development and has been dedicated to community service for more than 25 years.

Ms Smuk brings to the role a depth of knowledge of Australian culture, society and politics as well as strong professional networks in Slovenia.

Ms Smuk maintains a deep connection with her Australian home, Sydney, to where she first migrated in 1984.

As Australia’s Honorary Consul Ms Smuk will provide consular services to Australians in Slovenia in accordance with the Consular Services Charter, and is authorised to conduct interviews for Australian travel documents.

More than 45,000 Australians visit Slovenia each year, and approximately 150 Australians are living and working in Slovenia.
